Synopsis

From an idea by Renny Bartlett and Sian Thomas, I AM AN OX, I AM A HORSE, I AM A MAN, I AM A WOMAN is a documentary featuring interviews with Russian film directors Lana Gogoberidze and Kira Muratova, and actress Ina Churikova, amongst others. The film investigates the representation of women and the role women have in the art of Russian cinema. Explored through such films as Long Farewells (Kira Muratova, 1972), The Women (Vladimir Batalov, 1940) and No Ford Through The Fire (Gleb Panfilov, 1968).
